Psychiatric Care

Psychiatric Care 1 1Psychiatric care facilities provide treatment for mental health concerns. At Northpoint, we provide psychiatric care as a port of our alcohol and drug rehabilitation services. The portion of psychiatric care we offer is a dual diagnosis treatment program in Omaha, Nebraska. Dual diagnosis is when there is both substance use and a mental health concern.

Northpoint is an outpatient-only facility offering our patients a range of psychiatric and rehab programs. Our patients can get intensive treatment for substance use disorders without being away from home for weeks at a time. What Is an Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment Program?

Northpoint provides several psychiatric services to the Omaha, Nebraska, area. Psychiatric treatment is held in our outpatient treatment facility. Treatment may also come in various formats depending on the patient’s individual needs.

Notably, outpatient psychiatric treatment isn’t a specific type of treatment. It is a general term used for treatment in an office, hospital, or clinical setting without an overnight stay. In these settings, treatment may involve:

  • Individual or group counseling
  • Psychotherapy
  • Dialectical behavior therapy
  • Outpatient anxiety treatment
  • Depression treatment

One of the outpatient psychiatric treatment premises is that it is recognized that no two people are the same. With that in mind, psychiatric outpatient programs can be modified to meet each patient’s needs. To create an individualized treatment plan, a complete evaluation is required to assess best the level of care that will be most beneficial to the patient.

Types of Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment Programs

One of the reasons someone may not seek psychiatric care is because they don’t want to miss work or school. One of the benefits of outpatient psychiatric treatment programs is the range and flexibility these programs have for individualization.

There are three common types of outpatient treatment to ensure there is a fit for every patient, including standard outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), and partial hospitalization programs (PHPs).

Standard outpatient requires regular visits to a facility at a frequency outlined by the patient’s care plan. These visits are scheduled around the patient’s work, school, and other outside responsibilities. Treatment usually takes place at least once a week and can last about a year (or more).

Commonly, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) involve three to four hours of treatment five days a week. While this may seem like a lot of time, programs are designed so that patients still have the flexibility to take care of their responsibilities outside of treatment. The recommended minimum length of time for an IOP is around 90 days.

PHPs have the least amount of flexibility. PHPs usually involve six or more hours of treatment a day, up to seven days a week. This program is highly structured and supervised. This is the highest level of care a patient can get without being in residential treatment. Given the intensity, PHPs usually only last around 30 days before there is a transition to a more flexible type of care.
